Giro Indicator Sport Bike Helmet

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
The Giro Indicator's confident style and superior ventilation are coupled with a modern design that complements every type of rider. As a result, the Indicator helmet is the perfect choice for riding downtown, up a technical climb, and everything in between. The helmet is built using Giro's in-mold construction, which fuses the helmet's outershell with the impact-absorbing EPS liner. Not only does this reinforce both layers, but the "exoskeleton" also allows Giro to engineer helmets that are lighter, more durable, and better ventilated. The helmet also includes 20 built-in vents, which thrust cool, fresh air over and around the rider's head while forcing heat and stale air out. And riders will love the helmet's snap-fit visor, which shields your eyes on bright, sunny days.
The Indicator bike helmet is carefully sculpted and size-specific, with an easy-to-adjust Acu Dial fit system. The helmet--which adjusts between 21.25 and 24 inches--weighs only 0.62 pounds and complies with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets.

About GiroWorking late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a sleek, stylish helmet that offered a superior fit while still meeting the industry's toughest safety standards. In addition, the helmet weighed half as much as traditional helmets, making it extremely comfortable. In the years since, Giro has advanced its helmets, which are extremely popular among progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are now worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Giro is based in Scotts Valley, California.

The Indicator's smooth, confident style and amazing ventilation are combined in a modern design that compliments every type of rider. It's the perfect mix for riding roads, trails and everything in between.

Customer Reviews

I bought this helmet last September. Excellent fit, very comfortable, light, and good ventilation. It's protection ability was tested yesterday when I hit a curb wrong and went flying - cracked the helmet ; recieved 16 stiches to my eye but no concusion or other head injury... which really surprised the emergency room doctor. I'm buying the exact same model today as my replacement.

You can tell the dramatic difference in the weight of this helmet versus a comparably priced Bell helmet. It's as light as they get, comfortable, and definitely keeps your head cool.
The big negative and the reason for 2 stars is the Y shaped adjustable connecter that connect the two straps on each side of the ear to form the single strap that connects under jaw.
Most Y connectors allow the straps to lay flat against your cheek, this one however forces a twist to the straps as they enter the connector, making the strap and connector rest at an angle on your cheek. Not only is this very uncomfortable, but I imagine very un-aerodynamic. My friend has a bigger round face (he's overweight) and it was very uncomfortable. I am in shape and still had the strap angle on my cheeks instead of resting flat, so just adjusted the Y connector under my jaw line so I didn't have to feel it. That worked fine for me and still felt secure and safe for an accident, but my friend could not adjust it that low given his facial structure. The only good thing about the Y connector is it flips open easily with a finger so you can adjust it up or down quickly without a mirror. However, the way it rests on your cheeks is unacceptable and should never have made it to the assembly line (imo).
